Holcim Construction in Pueblo, Colorado is completing a major recreation and safety project along the Arkansas River led by Project Manager Angela George and Superintendent Tim Provost. The pre-existing dam was dangerous and had been known to cause fatalities and injuries due to the turbulent water created by the drop. This photo depicts the act of water diversion to prevent negative environmental impact. The river is diverted from the main causeway during low-flow winter periods to prevent the equipment or other work from contaminating the water. In addition to the diversion, filtration methods are also used at the end of the work zone and I test water that is pumped weekly for contamination. On this particular day, the temperatures had dropped too low for equipment to work efficiently, and so I was able to snap this photo of our still work site.
