Vessel lightering of bulk cargo performed, at anchor, by the Seattle Plant team. In this photo, a ship load of ~25,000 metric tons of Copper Slag was unloaded onto barges to be delivered to the Richmond plant. Lightering consists of the Seattle Team running excavators in the ship's hold, and operating the ship's cranes with remote controlled grab buckets. The product is then loaded onto a barge and distributed on the barge evenly by loaderand/or excavator.
