My Name is Brett Litman, I am a 7 year employee of Holcim. I work in the credit department and am usually never on job sites. I happened to have a Doctors appointment in Boston at the Mass General Hospital back in December and I parked in the garage. All of a sudden, I looked outside and saw our ready mix trucking delivering to a jobsite to help build a new medical building. We have had a shortage of hospital beds in our area and this will really help once it is constructed. I was impressed by seeing the trucks pour and how methodical it was. I snapped this photo and figured I'd share it with the group.

One North Quay in Canary Wharf will be a new 23-storey, 823,000 sq ft laboratory tower, representing the first research building of this type within London's financial district and the first phase of the creation of a world-leading centre for health and life sciences companies. Work was underway to demolish the existing false quay, which was constructed from concrete that had stood in place for over one hundred years and situated within the currently undeveloped site. In driving circle economy and material re-use, 2,500 tonnes of the demolished concrete marine deck was diverted to Aggregate Industries' Greenwich concrete plant. In collaboration with the client/developer Canary Wharf Group, the CDW material will be crushed, recycled and re-used within the concrete for the new false quay, representing full circularity of concrete within the project. This supports the low carbon strategy of the project and further enhances the provision of renewable sources.

This photograph has ben taken during the construction of the Low Carbon House at HIC in January 2020, before ECOPact and ECOCYCLE were launched. This picture illustrates the commitment of our workers to build lighthouse demonstrators. Indeed the Low Carbon House has been used as a full scale demonstrator of new solutions to make ECOPact. The worker was checking the consistency of the prototype concrete specifically developed. This concrete was, in 2020, a first of its kind: (i) - almost fully circular (100% recycled concrete sand and aggregates, 100% recycled water and the binder was composed by 90% of blast furnace slag, by product of steel industry). (ii) and carbon neutral (carbon captured by the recycled concrete aggregates compensated the carbon content of the other compounds).

To name a few, there are the Philippine Extended Producer Responsibility Act of 2022 that holds companies accountable for their packaging materials and wastes, water-neutrality initiatives of companies, waste upcycling community projects and the local initiatives of the municipalities like professionalizing the garbagemen and garbage collectors. Before, garbage collection seems like dirty work and being looked down by the society. Today, garbagemen are being professionalized and get the dignity, pride and recognition they deserve. The society now understands that they play a vital role in keeping our environment pristine. The Information, Education and Communication campaigns helped open the minds of the public.

This is a day of new learning on sustainability and innovation to 87 senior high school students during their visit to the Innovation Hub. The newly built Innovation Hub is the highlight of the plant visits and open house engagement activities here in Holcim Davao Plant, Philippines with stakeholders from various sectors. It introduces Holcim as a company with strong commitment on sustainability and innovation in developing its products and operating its business. Appointed regular employees were trained as Brand Ambassadors who facilitates the knowledge sharing, presentations and discussions during the plant tours. Our visitors get excited as they immerse in a virtual reality experience to explore Holcim Innovation Hub in Lyon, France. They are amazed that a cement plant such as Holcim DV, innovated a virtual immersive facility showcasing its sustainable building solutions for its partners to help them build better in the Philippines.

Even our common spaces are nauseating; this is also the image of our country. It’s sad! We must encourage them every day and take their claims into account. See them every morning when we go to the office, in our streets, our intersections, our neighborhoods to free us from this waste amazes us and also makes us aware of our own responsibilities to be also actors of cleanliness wherever we are and that it is EVERYONE’s BUSINESS!!!!
