The reason I decided to take a photo is due to history of this place, which deserves special attention. At the moment it is a complex "Cassovar", a multifunctional zone of administrative, commercial and residential purpose. Earlier on this place was the famous brewery of the city of Kosice (Slovakia). At the moment, there is a little bit of a reminder of it - chimney pipe. In this way we see the interaction of history and the modern world. Also, I wanted to put a little bit of retro history in my photo.

Holcim Construction in Pueblo, Colorado is completing a major recreation and safety project along the Arkansas River led by Project Manager Angela George and Superintendent Tim Provost. The pre-existing dam was dangerous and had been known to cause fatalities and injuries due to the turbulent water created by the drop. Holcim is creating, instead, a spillway with multiple drop structures that can be used recreationally and is safe for kayakers, rafters, river surfers, and tubers alike. This picture shows Holcim Superintendent Tim Provost breaking apart the pre-existing dam’s concrete. This concrete is broken to size specification to act as backfill. Holcim employees utilized this concrete that would have otherwise been discarded to fill underneath the new spillway. This decision saved concrete from ending up in a landfill, and it saved emissions from trucking material from the quarry located approximately an hour away.

"Sustainable mobility". This is one of the sides of an airport that uses clean energy. This project inspire me because Holcim was part of the construction of this airport that benefits the airport network of the Valley of Mexico. This airport has a LEED certification, two photovoltaic parks, a cogeneration power plant, nine wastewater treatment plants, and a rainwater collection system. During construction, many species of flora and fauna were rescued and relocated. In addition, the skeletal remains of mammoths and archaeological remains found during construction, are preserved in a museum where people can visit.

Built in 1975, the iconic building was originally built as luxurious apartments featuring a hollow core to allow natural light and ventilation into the apartments. I have probably circled the inner streets for over 5 Hours trying to get the perfect shot. This once luxurious Icon is neighbors one of the Most Dangerous Parts of South Africa, I had to take this pic in my car due to this. An amazing building that showed Circular Living from way back in 1975.

When Circularity and Cultural Identity Meet When progress happens, do we have to lose identity brought about by change? For the small municipality in the Philippines named Naawan, going green and circular while preserving the culture of locals was proven possible. The newly-built Naawan Municipal hall, inaugurated January 2024, showcases the green architecture that complements their town identity. As farming remains the main source of their income, they built a honeycomb-inspired building that represents how hardworking the locals are like the bees. The middle of the facade was inspired by the Philippine Rice Terraces. The building was thoughtfully designed that boasts of its natural light and ventilation with high ceiling, partial skylight, window panels that block-off direct sunlight, indoor plants and trees, and sewage treatment system that connects treated water to the landscapes that surround the building. Next on their list is the installation of renewable power source.

The Meadowvale Community Centre and Library located in Mississauga, Ontario is a product of the city’s updated Green Development Standard to combat climate change. The centre is LEED Silver-certified, with a pedestrian plaza at the front of the building, and a connecting path to the back of the building, allowing community residents to enjoy adjacent Lake Aquitaine’s surrounding walking trail. The building has a coloured brise-soleil which shades the building during Summer, green roofing to address the heat island effect, permeable paving and bioswales to divert and retain storm water while removing debris and pollution as it travels down Lake Aquitaine. In spring, native and drought-resistant plant species are found all around the area, enriching the habitat for local wildlife. These majestic tusks were built in 1952 to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's historic visit. Made of wood and canvas, they marked the route from the airport to her residence by the sea. After the visit, the tusks were almost removed, but their proximity to Uhuru Gardens saved them. Instead, in 1956, the Mombasa Municipal Council decided to rebuild the tusks using aluminum to make the monument more imposing and weather-resistant. The new tusks welcomed Princess Margaret to East Africa and Mauritius. Over time, the tusks have become an important symbol of Kenya's wildlife and savannah. They have been painted by US Marines on several occasions and are now a popular tourist attraction. Travel agencies frequently link the tusks to their activities and events, making them a must-see destination for anyone visiting the coastal town.

In November 2023, during my vacation, I took a photo in Seoul, South Korea, at Songpa Naru Park. Additionally, here are some notable details about that moment: The building, known as "Lotte Tower," ranked as the sixth tallest in the world upon completion in 2016. Moreover, the tower is surrounded by a picturesque lake adorned with diverse trees, a popular spot among Koreans for outdoor workouts (like Yoga). What strikes me most about this photo is its reflection of Korean culture, which places a strong emphasis on caring for both people and the planet. Here, among the modern construction of Lotte Tower with its LEED certification, we see a harmonious blend of healthy habits and the tranquility of pure nature. It serves as a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness between sustainable practices, urban development, and personal wellness—a testament to South Korea's commitment to fostering a balanced and environmentally conscious society.

Whilst walking round London, I visited the area with these Iconic buildings. The Lloyds building, an incredible example of how to maximise internal space. The use of stainless steel and exposed concrete to make the building sustainable in it's ability to use the environmental elements to help heat and cool the building. The Gherkin with its design to help reduce its need for artificial lighting with the extensive glass exterior. The increased airflow due to the design of the building reduces the need for air conditioning, thus also reducing energy costs. The likes of these buildings just drives on the need and desire to innovate how we look at what we create, how we can utilise all available sources to the most sustainable levels, aiming to give back to the environment, what we take out, and then some.

The LTA Parks Improvement Framework was to upgrade poorly conditioned tennis courts in public parks back to life bringing value, quality, physical and mental health benefits to the local communities. Spadeoak was appointed on the LTA Tennis refurbishment framework for the south of the UK, one of the largest lots to complete the refurbishment to over 184 identified tennis courts in need of reinvigorating to support the local communities by improving the facilities, making them a safe, secure and fun area for members of the public to enjoy playing tennis. This project at Bostall Gardens, Greenwich, London incorporated a carbon saving reduction strategy by utilising Aggregate Industries' innovative low-carbon asphalt surface course. Typically, I use my bicycle to commute between home and work. However, one day I opted for a different route and passed through Bempt Park. This park features a soccer club, a pond, a school, a playground, and an intriguing sight captured in the photograph.
